Show up to class on time with sketchbook. You can get out the materials you need when you get in the classroom, but be prepared to pause what you are doing so I can explain the day 30 seconds after class starts.
Focus and work hard on the task at hand! Conversation and music are allowed as long as it does not become a distraction.
Clean up after yourself! This means all materials you used are put away, your projects are stored in your locker or on a drying shelf, and the space around you is clean. In addition, you will be responsible for one cleaning task from the task cup. Depending on what material you are working with that day, you will get a task from the task cup (or be handed a task by the teacher). Once you have completed that task, put it in the “Done” cup. If your task is related to another task (i.e. you got table cleaning and someone got chair cleaning) support each other to get your tasks completed.
Respect the teacher, peers and the classroom! Disrespect, bullying, and negative comments towards each other or towards the teacher is not tolerated. Misusing material will also not be tolerated. Disciplinary actions will be taken if you are found to endanger anyone or anything.
Be creative! Your project should be something you are interested in. Your project needs to fulfill the expectations, but you are encouraged to do something unique and inventive with it. I will provide alternative challenges to each project if you want to do something different, and if you have an idea please share it with me!
(20 pt) Plan your project in your sketchbook/handouts and participate in discussion.
(30 pts)Create a piece that is unique and personal to you.
(30 pts) Technique taught is demonstrated in piece and piece shows craftsmanship.
(20 pts) Reflect on learning by participating in group critique and a written reflection.
Projects will be done during class time and if you use your time wisely you should get done!
If you are falling behind, you are welcome to come in during lunch or arrange a time with me to come in to work.
If you are UNABLE to finish your project before the due date and you have come in outside of class time at least once to work on it and used time wisely in class, you can choose to take an EXTENSION. This means that you will have an additional 3 days to work on the project OUTSIDE of class. YOU MUST ASK FOR THIS!
Sketchbook Assignments: 20 pts
Due Every other TUESDAY. These are due at the beginning of class. If you turn it in later that day or the next day it is -3 points off, two days late -7points, three days late -10. I will not accept it after 3 days, but you can replace it with an extra credit drawing. Even if you do not have class with me that day, you are expected to come and turn in missing work!
You can choose to draw whatever you want and use whatever medium you want! You can take on the SKETCH CHALLENGE posted on the board!
This is HOMEWORK and must be separate from your project planning. However, if you are finished with your project in class, you are encouraged to work on your sketches and are welcome to work ahead.
A Sketchbook drawing should be a COMPLETE DRAWING.
FULL PAGE/COMPOSITION: Use the full page and create an interesting view
DETAILS: Use color, add shading, or finish with pens to make your piece complete.
CRAFTMANSHIP: Technique and quality demonstrates at least 45 minutes spent on the piece.
Sketches should be DATED with the DUE DATE. Marking it with a GRADING SLIP will help me find it!
ANY SKETCH THAT IS TURNED IN INCOMPLETED WILL BE GRADED AS IS. This means that if it is not colored/shaded/inked, you could get up to -15 points.
If you need to borrow supplies in order to finish your sketch, please ask before the end of the day and use the sign out sheet. Return the material by the next class period.
Extra Credit Opportunity! You can do up to 1 additional sketch for a total of 30 extra credit points! It will be graded harder, so do a great job on it.
Forgiveness Pass: If you lose your two forgiveness passes, you will not get another, so tape them into your sketchbook! If a sketch is due on Tuesday, this extends it to the beginning of class on Monday. If you do not turn it in by Monday, it is ½ off and unacceptable by Wednesday. Remember, it is your responsibility to give me your sketch. I also suggest you turn it in directly to me as I may not check the sketch box.
Participation: 5 pts per week
At the beginning of the week, students will start at 8 points. If you stay on task and do as expected, you will get 8 points for the week. If you go above and beyond by helping others, participating in discussion, staying on task and CLEANING, you will get 10 points. If you are distracting, off-task, or disrespectful, you will receive below 8 points.
At times, participation points will be sketchbook checks, a daily sketch exercise, etc. If you miss class, you will miss these points and you will need to see me for an alternative assignment.
ABSENCE POLICY -If you are aware that you will be missing class, please come to me in advanced so that I can supply you with material to take home. If we are working on a project that cannot be taken home, you MUST COME IN AT LUNCH AND MAKE UP THE TIME. - If a project is due the day you are missing, please turn it in a day in advanced. THIS INCLUDES SPORT OR SCHOOL RELATED ABSENCES. If you turn in a sketchbook the day after a sports event you attended, it will be counted late. - If you are sick, you are responsible for talking to me about what you missed. You can also look at the website or google classroom to see what you missed. You might still need to come in to make up time depending on how far behind you get on a project. Because you know in advanced when a project is due and it is long term, I will only give you a three-day extension based on your work ethic. If a project was due the day you missed, it is due when you get back by the end of the day. -If you are ill for a long period of time and we are working on a project that must be done in class, I will give you an alternative project that you can do at home. You will be given an extension based on your absence, but the project must be done outside of class time. This will require a lot of TIME MANAGEMENT on your part as it will be a completely independent project.
